What is Zi Wei Dou Shu?
East Asian astrology, a thousand years deep
It took shape in the Tang and Song eras, where Indian astrology met Chinese Book of Changes tradition. The Song-dynasty Daoist Chen Xi Yi is credited with systematizing it; it spread widely once the Ming and Qing dynasties put it into writing.
From the year, month, day and hour of your birth, it raises 12 palaces — Life Palace (命宮), Spouse Palace (夫妻宮), Wealth Palace (財帛宮), Career Palace (官祿宮) and the rest — then places 14 major stars such as Zi Wei (紫微), Tian Ji (天機), Tai Yang (太陽) and Wu Qu (武曲) along with dozens of supporting stars to draw your natal chart. The star-and-house structure resembles Western astrology, but every interpretation runs on Yin-Yang, the Five Elements, and East Asian divination.
In Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore it is nearly as mainstream as Saju — Taiwanese portal horoscope columns are often built around it outright. Automatic chart-casting tools and apps have only pushed everyday use higher.
